One mighty, passionate, emotional, human record. The electric Reid brothers write straight forward lyrics, simple, catchy tunes, play with a solid backing band and sing like they really mean it. The opening track I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) is a song of total devotion and dedication to another human. This is folkrock that actually rocks! And kicks, and thumps, and bellows and screams of joyous release. An LP worth the first track alone.
But there's much more. The political songs like Cap in Hand and What Do You Do ("What do you do when democracy's all through/What do you do when minority means you?") are superb. The love songs will wring-out your heart and the harmonies will put a smile on your face (if you're not already singing along). As song writers they also posses the rare ability to make the linking or bridge section of a song take off and fly. It happens many times on this LP.
This was great fun to review. A rare, moving record that works on many levels. The closest thing to a classic I've heard all year.
